C2606267) Cerussite - Sidi Amor ben Salem Mine, Sidi Amor ben Salem, Al Kåf (El Kef; Le Kef), Le Kef Governorate, Tunisia Size: 5.2 x 2.7 x 1.9 cm (miniature) Price: $ 450
One seldom sees specimens from this old locality available on today's mineral market. I visited this mine in the late 1990's to see if any specimens were available; there were extensive workings but I was told that no mining had taken place since the 1950's. There were no specimens available. This specimen consists of two colorless twinned crystal groupings of cerussite forming a cluster without matrix. Microscopic level chipping is present, but overall I think in very good shape damage-wise. These are truly rare and not often available today. Ref: Palache, C., Berman, H., & Frondel, C. (1951), The System of Mineralogy of James Dwight Dana and Edward Salisbury Dana, Yale University 1837-1892, Volume II: 258. E9508101) Erythrite - Aghbar Mine (Arhbar Mine), Aghbar, Bou Azzer District, Tazenakht, Ouarzazate Province, Souss-Massa-Draâ Region, Morocco Size: 6.9 x 3.3 x 2.1 cm (small cabinet) Price: $ 750
A thick spray of magenta colored tightly compacted erythrite crystals, this measuring 4.1 cm in length and double terminated, is set nicely on matrix. Slight chipping is present at one end of the crystal grouping. An excellent large thick cluster for the species; there is a lot of erythrite present. Ref: The Mineralogical Record: 38: 345-407.
